Where did you go?

Life is hard but so very beautiful

I realize that it’s been over a year since I’ve posted here. Some have asked why did I stop using the blog. I suppose it’s a good thing. My life became busy. I hardly have time for gaming anymore much less blogging on a daily basis. However, I am going to try and rekindle this blog. I can’t say I’d be updating it regularly, but maybe every other week. Between work and all my other projects, it can be hard. Being a grown up is tough sometimes.

Canada Days 28-43

It’s been tough to keep at this (I want to be in the moment and somehow stopping to take pictures detracts from that), but rest assured I do have things I did. So here are some of the things I’ve done in these 20 days

There are also some things I’ve done that I didn’t take photos for

  • Visited Eaton Mall
  • Played games at palladium (big arcade)
  • Various restaurants
  • Played at Casinos

It has been a memorable experience. I will be returning home on the 13th of November. It will be nice to be home (though I’ll admit it will be harder since I can’t expense everything). Still, I look forward to returning to the USA. It has been a memorable time. I’ll admit that aside from a handful of things, very little is different from here to the United States overall. It feels a little like Fort Collins to be honest. However, it was a pleasure meeting people and generally enjoying an area that I would not normally get to go to, much less on the company dime. There may be other opportunities in the future to go to other places across Europe and Asia. Maybe these will come to pass.

Ignite Denver 20

So they posted my Ignite Denver 20 video. If this link breaks I’ll be sure to update it. Hope you enjoy it.

There were some staunch differences between Denver and Fort Collins. One thing that I am still undecided on, although it helped, is the two run throughs before the event. I think I did pretty good up in Fort Collins without the run throughs, but I do admit that in this case, it helped the overall presentation. I suppose that in the case of Fort Collins, I ended up practicing it more because there wasn’t a mandatory run through, where as with Ignite Denver I simply threw something together and worked it out in front of the group.

Here is my Ignite Fort Collins talk:

Countdown to Celtic

logofinal2[1]

The festival is coming. Cheyenne here I come. If anyone is interested, it is the 13th of June through the 15th at the depot plaza in Cheyenne. Nothing much happens until Friday night. There are things most of the day Saturday and in the morning/early afternoon Sunday. If you do go, please let me know, or come and talk to me. Come and enjoy beer and haggis. There are dancers, singers, bands, vendors and enough plaid kilts to… well….

Saturday afternoon I’ll (most likely) be doing the celtic dancers. Friday I’ll be there all day doing set up.

Update 6/5/14: It seems I may not be doing the dancers this year. I may actually be doing sound. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what my role will be.

(Clock it set to time when I need to be in the plaza. Actual event starts in the evening)

Another year, another time for recap.

First and foremost, I found a very good job. It pays well and challenges my skill set somewhat. My co-workers are also very nice to work with. Admittedly it was a bit unnerving at first when people got laid off within a few weeks of me coming on, and then again when we were acquired by another company. However, I made it so far through the changes and it would be difficult for them to cut any deeper.

By June/July, I’ll be moving to Denver. I’ll be moving in w/ my GF of a year and it seems like it’s the time. Plus I’m in Denver most of the time anyways. The misgivings I mentioned in this post have been alleviated. Now it just a matter of when I move. It will be sometime in June

School goes.

I’ve lost some drive but I’ve found that taking a break for a few months restores it. I want to get it done and while I don’t expect to enjoy it, it shouldn’t be a chore like it is. I return in the fall and if the pattern holds, I’ll do two more groups of two classes and then want another break. In the end though, I only get charged when I take classes so I can do this at whatever pace I want.

As for health, I think I’m ok. Admittedly, my drive to be active just isn’t there. I want to play DDR more but I just don’t have the energy or lungs that I used to. I’m going to play at laser tag nationals in the fall so I need to at least get my sprinting up or I’ll be unable to compete. Hopefully, when I move to Denver, I’ll be able to run in the park near her apartment.

Honestly there isn’t a whole lot to report. But I’m here.

Moving to Denver

Den-Skyline-4-14-09-33-of-39[1]

So I spent some of this weekend touring possible apartments in Denver. While I do work in Fort Collins, all of my friends are in Denver (with a few exceptions). Me actually moving to Denver doesn’t mean that anything changes except for my daily commute (which will be twice as long ( 30 mins -> 1 hour)). Truthfully, it will be nice not to have to drive home on the weekends.

Regardless of all that, we went and looked at apartments. My major concern is the cost. It is true that we can afford some of these places with ease, but it still seems like quite a bit to drop per month. Perhaps I am just spoiled by when I lived in Cheyenne. Up there, my two bedroom cost me 670 a month. Admittedly, that was difficult on EchoStar’s salary but it was doable. The place that we are looking at will be around 1,330 a month which for Denver is fair. Still, it will put a massive expense in the budget, not to mention utilities and such.

Again, all this is completely doable so I’m not that worried about it, it is just a change. However, it will be nice to get a space and go to Denver. A number of my friends have expressed a desire to spend time with me but are unable to do so because I am an hour away. This should remedy that.

Here is hoping this all goes well. We think we’ve found one but we are going to look at another floor plan in the same complex on Sunday.

Another day, another futile attempt at world domination

Well, I could go into detail about what is happening, but I really don’t want to tell the world about my specific issues. The short version is that I’ve been depressed for a long time now. Work is fine, it’s work. However, where I am lacking is in relationships. On Saturday night I had a minor breakdown. Nothing I couldn’t recover from, but I know where the pain lies. I need to do something about it, but it’s like banging my head against the wall. If I stop trying it hurts more. If I try, at least the pain stays the same. I want to keep moving forward but the past keeps pulling me back.

On other fronts I trek on. The 501c3 is going well, we’ve got a date planed for the board of directors meeting. This should be interesting. I’ve never been part of a board before. In all honesty I’m debating if I even want to be a part of the final result (i.e.: a board member) or just want to help planning. It’s not like I’d be able to in 5 years anyways. However it would certainly be an experience.

Anyways, I hope all is well dear reader. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
